The Richman Behavior System was rolled out to students on Friday, April 30, 2004. Teachers helped students understand the right and wrong way to behave while at school. It seemed that the teachers really understood the wrong way to act, while the children were obviously better at knowing and following the rules. Here are some pictures and an explanation of this new - Be Safe, Be Kind, and Be Responsible - system.

The Richman Racer Gets A New Look - Recently, our students worked extremely hard at recreating the Richman Mascot. With great voice, the students decided that the Racer would remain a rabbit, but that it would have a whole new "racier" look. "And the racer is....."

Student Valet Drop Off - We are very proud of the work of our parents, staff and students who have developed a safe way for children to be transported to and from school. Please read a letter from Mr. Miyashiro and Mrs. Grimm about this highly successful project. Drop Off Zone

Richman's Family Math night was an outstanding event bringing together parents, teachers and students with one goal in mind. How can we help Richman students succeed in their understanding of mathematical concepts? Hands on lessons were presented to the parents in attendance, and a shared feeling of "we can do this" was the feeling tone of the evening. Thanks to all who attended, presented and helped to make this a purposeful opportunity for our community.

Each grade level packed the room. Families were balancing equations in 6th grade, learning measurement strategies in 5th grade, working with time and cents in 4th grade, engaging in cooperative learning centers in 3rd, using the 100s chart in 2nd grade, and working with dice and money in kindergarten and first grades. Please visit the Parent Involvement page for pictures.

Read Across America is a national day devoted to celebrating reading. Associated with the birthday of Dr. Seuss, school children celebrate his birthday by devoting time to reading. Richman School celebrated the week of March 1st with many activities centered around this idea. One such event was a daily "Drop Everything and Read" announcement. Getting into the spirit of the celebration are office staff and administration:

Richman students are redesigning the Richman Racer. Announced today at our opening flag ceremony, the students are to create a new slogan to add to the Richman Racer logo. The Racer was first created in 1978 and it portrayed a rabbit skating on roller skates, a popular activity of students in those days. Even though it is not known for sure, the Racer was probably created by a student, Vincent, who still lives and works in the Fullerton area. In the 1990's the Racer changed form a few times. The first Racer was a running rabbit very similar to the current one. Then, the PTA created a series of t-shirts that represented the Racer with a more muscular body. Although, this Racer only lasted a year, some students today still have t-shirts with this logo. The Racer returned to its running, less muscular, look as pictured below.

We now look forward to our new Racer mascot created for the 21st century. Students please accept this challenge and know that your creation might become part of the history of Richman School.
