School Mission

Richman School is a community of learners where students, staff, families, and other stakeholders work to maximize the learning potential for all. The focus is to implement rigorous standards based instruction in order to foster critical thinking, guide problem solving, and promote risk taking in an ever-changing world.

Richman School is bursting at the seams with great programs to both ground and enrich our students’ educational experience.

Our school-wide instructional focus on oral and written expression, coupled with the research-based instructional strategies that we’ve adopted, have strengthened our academic program to the point that our State testing index has risen 140 points over the last five years!

Hooray for 5th grader Tasha!! Tasha represented Richman School in the annual Fullerton School District Spelling Bee on Feb 7th. She went a total of 17 rounds and wound up tying for the championship with a 5th grade student from Rolling Hills. Tasha is proof of the great instruction and learning taking place at Richman School.

4th grade winner was from Acacia
5th grade winner (tie) was from Richman and Rolling Hills
6th grade winner was from Beechwood
7th and 8th grade winners were both from Parks

Richman’s school-wide behavior program, which focuses on positive reinforcement and praise, is going strong. It is built on the tenets of Be Safe, Be Kind, and Be Responsible. Good things happen to those who make good choices.

Our Academic Incentive program with Mrs. Grimm’s Blue Ticket Store also helps students strive for higher scores and greater effort in their work. Lots of great prizes are available for fifteen or more blue tickets. These students also have their names posted in the office window.

Our Accelerated Reader program gives students access to over 100,000 reading quizzes. “AR” provides incentives for students to read while allowing teachers one more method of motivating and monitoring student progress toward reading achievement. Click here to take an AR test.

We are so proud of our students. Richman Elementary School students met all Federal and State goals this year. This is a huge accomplishment for our students and we want to congratulate them for their outstanding progress. Keep up the great work kids. For more information, see the following article written in the Orange County Register. Click here for article.

Our Multi-Age GATE classroom regularly takes trips to enriching events opening up new horizons for these gifted young learners. The class abounds with challenging and highly motivating projects, presentations, and in depth learning.

The Lunch Time Sports Program is directed by Physical Education teacher Kurt Koerth, however students run the team selection process, team leadership and game officiating. During lunch recess, students compete with one another in organized sports for fun and "end of the league" rewards. The program allows students to stay active while developing sportsmanship and leadership skills. In addition, the kids learn lessons that only competition can provide. This program is currently in its eighth year.

Grants - The school leadership team has written and been awarded state and federal grants totaling more than $300,000 per year. These funds are in addition to our pre-existing budget. They are used to provide state of the art resources, technologies, and high quality professional development that ensure Richman students are well prepared to achieve success in the 21st century.

Smaller Class Sizes - Richman also utilizes grant money to lower class sizes in Kindergarten and 3rd grade (in addition to district provided class size reduction in grades 1 and 2). With the Quality Education Investment Act Grant, we anticipate lowering class sizes in grades 4 through 6 as well.

Channel 88 (Richman) daily broadcast, our in-house cable TV channel, continues to provide a way to tie together our large campus as well as giving students and teachers a chance to publish their work to a school-wide audience. Through this highly effective and engaging mode of communication, we have been able to increase instructional time.
