Mission Statement
Orangethorpe Elementary is a collaborative learning community. We are active participants in promoting intellectual, social and emotional development to achieve our goals. We value the home-school partnership.
We have high expectations for continual growth.
Orangethorpe School is a wonderful place to learn. We have a rich and long tradition, dating back to 1873, of educating students in southwest Fullerton. We are committed to providing students a first-rate education that will serve them well as they move through school and then on into adulthood. We work together as a team to ensure that each child masters the state standards in an environment that emphasizes kindness, respect and responsibility.
Teachers work in professional learning communities to develop long and short-term goals for students and then use a variety of assessments to monitor student growth and adjust to meet individual needs. School-wide curricular focus areas include reading comprehension, writing, and number sense in math. Students who are more than two years behind grade level are enrolled in an extended day intervention program.
We provide our students a strong physical education to develop fitness and life-long skills, and an art appreciation program throughout the grade levels to engage them in the visual arts, dance, theater and music. We offer a variety of extra and co-curricular programs to keep students involved and engaged such as: student council, noon league sports and Academic Olympics for upper grade students, choir, chess, Read Across America events, school-wide reading challenges, chalk art, and family nights.
We work in collaboration with the City of Fullerton to offer an after-school program for K-6 grade students that includes homework assistance and recreation. Through the Fullerton Joint Union High School District, we offer adult English classes. A ten week family literacy class is offered twice a year.
If your child is currently enrolled at Orangethorpe School, thank you for making us your school of choice. If you are not currently enrolled, I encourage you to make a visit to our school, and see for yourself the quality education that we can offer to your child.
