The Exemplary Content Coaching Enhancing Learning (ExCEL) program is part
of a national research project under the No Child Left Behind Initiative funded
through a California Mathematics Science Partnership Grant (CaMSP). The program began in July 2006 bringing over 2.2 million dollars into the
district for three years. The grant award ended in June, 2009. This innovative, research-based program included an intensive Summer
Academy for 5th-8th grade mathematics teachers, where they received
coaching in mathematics content and pedagogy. Teachers also participated in
the Summer Algebra Readiness Lab School, where they worked in teams and
directly with students to immediately utilize the content, skills, and
strategies they learned through the Summer Academy. A video taping
component allowed for sustainability and ongoing staff development through
the lessons learned and taught within the ExCEL Program. These videos are
now available to all 5th-8th grade teachers in FSD. To check out the DVDs, please contact Laura Cabrera via email laura_cabrera@fsd.k12.ca.us. The ExCEL website has been updated with lessons and activities that were taught during the three-year grant cycle. Please use the links below to access your grade-level lessons. The lessons have been orgainzed by chapter from the District-adopted math textbooks. The website is now available to all
teachers throughout the district. If you have any questions or you would like
