Results of Laptop Survey

Parents at the six schools participating in the Laptops for Learning program were surveyed regarding their interest in participating in the program during the 2008-09 school year. The settlement agreement with the ACLU requires that for new students, at least 90% of families need to indicate a willingness to participate in a lease-purchase agreement or to request a grant-in-aid or scholarship to help defray the cost of the laptop. The school can also use any of its local/state/federal funding apart from the District's unrestricted funds to supplement family contributions. The following are the final results:

As a result of the survey, all six schools wish to participate in the Laptops for Learning program. The five schools needing supplementary funding have all identified the needed funds or have established a fundraising plan.

Detailed survey results are presented below. Each parent surveyed was asked to select from the following options:
  1. I want my student to participate in the Laptop Program through a lease/purchase agreement.
  2. I want my student to participate in the Laptop Program through a grant/aid program.
  3. I want my student to participate in the Laptop Program using a District-owned computer at no cost to me other than insurance.
  4. I do not want my child to participate in a laptop program.
The ACLU settlement agreement requires that a statistical summary of the survey data be published showing the number of parents surveyed and their responses to each of the four questions. This summary must be published within 14 days of the completion of the survey or evaluation.

The totals below indicate how parents responded to each of the survey options.
