DearParents:
Despite the week of stormy weather, we were blessed on Saturday to have sunshine for our Pancake Breakfast. My heartfelt thanks to all of you who braved the chilly weather and long line to support our Physical Education Program. Thanks to all of our teachers, staff, students, and parents who helped set up, cook, serve, and clean up. Many worked tirelessly for long periods of time. Mr. Kai and Mr. Alaniz provided entertainment with our students playing their guitars and recorders. Everyone enjoyed the food, entertainment, and socializing. What fun it was to see so many of our Acacia families!
Our expectation is that all students are in school and on time every day. Our attendance has been down slightly, due to illness. I trust this will improve as the flu season passes. Unfortunately, we continue to have students on a daily basis arriving late well. In order to avoid being tardy, it may be necessary to leave the house five minutes earlier in order to arrive by 8:00 AM. It is a disruption to the instructional program when a student walks in late to his/her class. In addition, it can be very disconcerting for the student to walk in late.
Our citation system still stands. However, we have altered it somewhat. Here is our new plan:
•when a student receives three unexcused tardies he/she will be given “track time” at recess with Mr. Mangino for three consecutive days, i.e. one day for each tardy
•when a student receives 5 unexcused tardies, he/she will receive a citation.
Thank you for your support in our endeavors to make sure the students are in school and on time.
Just a reminder that Friday, January 29th, is a Staff Development Day. The teachers will be hard at work developing and refining our grade level Essential Standards in English Language Arts and Math, as well as the Common Assessments that go along with these standards.
Very truly yours,
Sue Faassen
Principal
